Founded in 1861 in Melbourne, The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is the oldest gallery in Australia and the leading collection of Indigenous Australian art in the world. NGV is also home to Australia’s largest encyclopedic collection of art, including Australia’s oldest Asian art collection.

With total visitation of 3 million visitors in 2019, NGV is the most visited gallery in Australia and one of the top 20 most visited museums in the world.  NGV is currently housed in over two buildings – NGV International and NGV Australia – the museum has launched a campaign to develop its newest gallery, NGV Contemporary, which will be the its third site – presenting contemporary, historic, national and international art and design.
